New Year's Visitor

I got an email from So Young's father tonight! For now, it seems like she will be arriving New Year's Eve or New Year's Day! That's in just over a week! I have to get my house and her room ready. The agency says we should bring a gift at the airport to help her feel welcome. Any ideas? I would also like to leave something wrapped in her room. What do you think? I am really excited! I will update more when I get more information.

I'd opt for something like flowers for the airport. Nothing to open, no being embarrassed, no presumptions about what she's like. EVERYONE likes flowers!

For her room, I'd suggest a useful basket of info about your town (check out the Chamber of Commerce), a map of her new school (when I started h.s., to me that was VERY important), bus schedules etc if applicable, and then some fun stuff like wrapped candies, cool notebooks for school, etc. Oh, and of course, she's still at the age when you could give her a stuffed animal. Nothing too babish, mind you, and she'll probably act disinterested about it in front of you, but at night, when the homesickness starts, she'll be able to hug it in bed with her. Dang, I'm good, aren't I? (and modest)

I think flowers at the airport is a nice idea, maybe with a balloon.
And I definitely like the useful basket with items that will help her get familiar with her new temporary home. Maybe include some girly beauty products like bubble bath or something.
How exciting that she'll be here so soon. Sounds like you'll make her feel right at home.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

I was thinking it may be hard to lug around flowers while we're trying get carry a bunch of luggage. I think I will go with a teddy bear at the airport and something better when she gets home.

    What do you think?

I hadn't thought about all the luggage she'll have. A teddy bear would be lovely. Maybe some flowers in her room. (I just love flowers can you tell?)

Hey, since she likes Britney Spears, you should get her a little gift set of Britney's cologne. It's like $18 at wal-mart and it also smells awesome. I have to admit- i got some myself for christmas! You could put it in a basket with other things like others have suggested.
