Black and Blue

Today I went to pick up Bubbles and Robin and I unwrapped Smiley's bandage. The doctor warned me it would look bad, but it looks like my poor baby's privates were smashed in a car door! He is handling it like a trooper.

Bubbles has been having cough/congestion off and on since we got her. Brought her to the doctor twice, second time told that the cold may be lingering a long time. Mom and Robin think it may be asthma because we heard some weezing. Thank goodness for Smiley that I already have a nebulizer, so I gave her another breathing treatment tonight prescribed at her last visit. I'm gonna have to take her in again tomorrow. Her breathing sounds awful. So much for me catching up on rest tomorrow.

I was gonna be a bad mommy tomorrow and drop Bubbles off at day care for a while so I could deal with just Smiley, since he's demanding(and rightfully so) right now.

I'm so exhausted!

It's not being a bad mommy to take Bubbles to daycare! She will love seeing the other kids and her familiar caregivers, and Smiley will love the one-on-one time with you. And if you get lucky, you might even get a minute or two to yourself!

Don't feel guilty about it. Everyone is being well taken care of!

I'm so glad that smiley made it through surgery without any major complications. I hope both of your babies get better soon. Thinking of you and your family.

Poor little guy! Has he finished all of his major surgeries now? Are there any other surgeries that he will need? Glad he came through surgery OK and praying that he will have a speedy recovery!

There is a 1 in 7 chance a couple complications could occur from this surgery that would require another surgery, so pray he gets lucky and is finished.

This should be his last major surgery for a while. He's gonna need some extensive oral surgery when he's around 5-6. He will definately need braces too.

Has anyone checked to see if Bubbles has Respiratory Syncitial Virus (RSV)? The congestion combined with wheezing can be symptoms of RSV, and it can stay around for a long time if not treated. I hope the Smiley has a quick recovery! Best of luck!

I am a daycare provider and there are times when parents have a day off and they need that break and I have the kids...there is not a thing wrong with that. I sure Bubbles gets over her congestion/cold stuff soon. Poor baby. I am glad Smiley is doing ok too, HOpefully he will continue to heal just fine now...Wendy

Nah - you're being a SMART mommy! Yeah, RSV is horrible - we went through it w/ Cookie too. We are taking her to see a pediatric allergist soon - once we get her new birth certificate and can then get her ner medical card. Trying to convince doctors of her new name and medical card status right now is a pain in the A.
Oh, I so hope this is Smiley's last surgery for a while. He really is a great little boy for being so good with this. Are doctors still convinced of the Trisomy 13 thing they told you about when you first got him? Will that present more challenges to come, or are surgeries about it? (hope that isn't inappropriate for me to ask - and I know darn well you don't have to answer - that may just not be something you want to share). Hugs!

What was the verdict today at the doctor?

    Tamara,

He doesn't have trisomy 13. Isn't trisomy 13 fatal? I think it is. He has a chromosome 15 abnormality, but they can't really tell us what that means. All the major genetic issues like trisomy 13, downs syndrome, etc where negative in the first round of genetic testing.

Bubbles has reactive airway disease which is basically asthma, but they don't diagnose a kid with asthma until they are at least 3.
